Should we implement Voter ID Laws?

Why shouldn’t we implement voter ID laws? Having to provide proof of yourself by means of photo identification would not hurt anything at all. In fact, it would help! Voter ID laws would drastically reduce the amount of voter-fraud that we are seeing in elections.  Voter ID laws would ensure that someone who goes to vote is who they say they are.

Most people on the right are all for this. It would be beneficial to our voting system, and it would help to prevent some voter fraud. However, many people in the left argue otherwise. They clain disenfranchisement. Disallowing some to vote. Those people that potentially would be disenfranchised (according to the left) would be African Americans, old people, young people, and poor people.

They say it is too big of a hassle to go and get a free government issued ID.

Somehow, these people manage to sign themselves up for medicare, welfare, Social Security, and a long list of other government services.

Getting an ID (most people have one anyway!) is not a big hassle. It is easier than signing up for government assistance and other government services! But it isn’t really about the effort involved to pick up an ID. The left claims that this is racist. Eric Holder claims that ~25% of African Americans do not have proper photo-identification, while only 8% of whites do not have photo-identification.

So what does this mean? Why can’t anyone without an ID just pick one up? The answer is simple. They can, but they are either lazy, or they want to pull the race card all the time.

Afterall, while you don’t need ID to vote, you need it to do many other things such as:  (1)(2)

  • Buying Alcohol
  • Buying Cigarettes
  • Applying for government services
  • Driving a car

And the list goes on and on.
