Pentagon militarizing police forces

As the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan come to a close, the DOD and Pentagon have thousands of armored vehicles more than they need. These vehicles are now being given to police forces around the country.

These vehicles in question include the MRAP, the Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle. The pentagon plans to “unload” or give away roughly 13,000 of these military vehicles.

This starts a debate on weather or not our police forces are becoming to militarized. According to Fox’s: America’s Newsroom, a sheriff aquired one of these MRAP’s free of charge. The sherriff explained that
Officers can shelter in one of the vehicles if a “situation goes bad” and they’re helpful to officers who are serving “high-risk warrants.”
The DOD has no problem with this, however. They see it as a use for there expensive military vehicles, and more Police enforcement on the people.

But how much power of the Police is too much? You decide. Drop us a comment below.
